Donald Trump plans to rename major Florida airport – people are divided over it

official.

If approved, the airport—located just a couple of miles from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence—could adopt the new name as early as July 1.

Additionally, Representative Brian Mast has suggested changing the airport code from PBI to DJT.

However, while local authorities can decide on naming, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) clarified that it does not directly approve such changes. Instead, it would handle technical updates like charts and databases once a name change is finalized.

The proposal has sparked strong reactions online.

Critics have called the move unnecessary and confusing, questioning why existing landmarks should be renamed. Some argued that no previous president has taken similar steps while in office, while others expressed frustration over the focus on symbolic changes.

Supporters, however, welcomed the idea, with some calling it a historic moment and others suggesting it would appeal to Trump’s base.

The debate highlights growing divisions over the president’s influence on public spaces, as opinions remain sharply split on whether such naming decisions are appropriate.
