After 44 Years at Walmart, She Got a Pot of Flowers — and the Internet Exploded
Stop scrolling for a second. Look at her.
Her name is Gayle and she has worked at the same Walmart in Owensboro, Kentucky for 44 years. I don’t even know what to say about that number. 44 years. Most people don’t stay married that long.
Last November her store made a post about her. Blue vest, little smile, a small pot of flowers in her hand. That was the whole celebration, at least that’s what the photo shows. The post is gone now. Deleted. But the internet never forgets, does it?
And people went off. Because how do you look at a woman who gave a company almost half a century and think, yeah, flowers will cover it? Somebody online said her face looked like a “thousand yard stare.” I hate that I agree.
Okay, before you come at me. No, nobody said she was retiring. No, nobody proved the flowers were the only thing she got. Maybe there was a party. Maybe there was a bonus. I don’t know. You don’t know either.
But I do know this. That photo is what Walmart chose to show the world. Not a bonus check. Not a ceremony. A pot of flowers. And if that doesn’t bother you, I don’t know what to tell you.
Would you still be smiling after 44 years?
